Who are we?

Founded to meet the needs of Corporate Investigators

The Association of Corporate Investigators (ACi) is an international non-profit organisation established by corporate investigators, for corporate investigators. We support professionals at every stage of their careers, from those new to the field to experienced practitioners, across a wide range of industries and sectors.

What makes ACi unique is that it is led by senior in-house investigators who actively work in the profession. Membership of the Executive Committee is limited to senior investigators, ensuring the Association remains closely connected to the realities and challenges of modern corporate investigations. This practitioner-led approach gives ACi a clear purpose and helps ensure that all of its activities deliver genuine value to members.
Corporate investigations are an essential part of modern business. The global investigations community, together with its associated service providers and technology specialists, is estimated to comprise more than 500,000 professionals worldwide. ACi exists to serve and strengthen this growing community by providing training, research, thought leadership, networking opportunities, and access to shared resources. We are also committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion across the profession as part of our member-led mission.

The ACi Team delivers the association's programmes day-to-day — supporting members, running the Academy, producing publications, and convening the global community.

History

ACi was born to address the needs of corporate investigators

Since its formation in the late 1990s, ACi has recognised the need for consistent professional standards within the corporate investigations profession. This commitment has driven the development of the Certified Corporate Investigator (CCi) designation, creating a recognised benchmark for competence, professionalism, and best practice. ACi has also contributed to the development of international standards for internal investigations and continues to advance the profession through education, guidance, and industry collaboration.

 

In 2023, ACi published the ACi Corporate Investigations Handbook, a free resource designed to support investigators worldwide with practical guidance, insights, and best practices. Through initiatives such as the Handbook, professional certification, training programmes, and thought leadership, ACi continues to support the ongoing development and recognition of the corporate investigations profession worldwide.

At the heart of the ACi is the principle that associations are formed by like-minded professionals to serve the needs of their members. In our case this is the community of corporate investigators in its widest sense. The association seeks to be diverse and inclusive and in terms of history believes forming the ACi was long overdue.
